George Wade Talks Bidpath & Gavel Trail on Gavel & Gabble Podcast

🎙️ What You'll Hear in This Episode:

In this special episode of The Gavel and the Gabble, hosts Harry from Windsor Auctions and Simon from Lime Bay Auctions sit down with George Wade, UK Managing Director at Bidpath, for a moving, insightful, and amusing conversation that shines a light on the best of the auction industry - and the people behind it.

🧠 A deeply personal story, bravely told

George shares how a post-Cheltenham race day headache turned into a devastating diagnosis – and how, just months later, he ran the London Marathon to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity.

🔨 The launch of The Gavel Trail

A one-of-a-kind public art trail and fundraising auction created by The Bidpath Foundation in partnership with Wild in Art, featuring 15 artist-painted, one-metre-long gavels displayed across the UK (and one in Vienna), each sponsored by auction houses around the UK & Europe.

🎨 Art meets auctions

Hear the powerful stories behind some of the gavels – from Chiswick Auctions’ stunning design by Helena Trail, whose father passed away from a brain tumour, to Tennants Auctioneers’ Yorkshire-inspired piece by Jonathan Wade, whose wife is also living with a brain tumour.

George talks about how Ellie Smith from Chiswick, whose own father is undergoing treatment, championed the project internally – and how the connections behind each gavel have made the Gavel Trail deeply personal for so many.

🏃 Fundraising and the Formation of the Bidpath Foundation

In addition to raising over £50,000 already, Bidpath formally launched The Bidpath Foundation to support brain tumour and palliative care charities in an ongoing way.

The three charities benefiting in 2025 are:

  • The Brain Tumour Charity
  • The National Brain Appeal
  • International Children’s Palliative Care Network

George’s story and the industry’s support have made this much more than a one-time campaign — it's a long-term commitment.

📅 The Big Event: November 6th

The episode builds up to the live charity auction taking place on 6th November at RICS in Westminster, hosted by The Bidpath Foundation in partnership with Wild in Art, with internet bidding powered by Bidpath’s auction platform at:
